It - Quando uno pensa alle Maldive subito rievoca alla mente resort lussuosi con tutti i comfort possibili ed immaginabili: ristorante, villa sulla spiaggia, piscina che affaccia sul mare, cocktail portato sul lettino mentre prendi il sole e tutte le accortezze che rendono una vacanza indimenticabile.
Ma le Maldive vanno oltre i resort tanto è vero che molte sono le isolette disabitate ed ancora di più quelle in cui i "locals" vivono.
Grazie all'escursione fatta
durante il nostro soggiorno a Summer Island Maldives abbiamo potuto apprezzare la parte più etnica e selvaggia di questo fantastico luogo.
Partiti la mattina alle ore 9 dal resort, dopo una oretta di speedboat arriviamo all'isola di K. Gaafaru Island; un'isola abitata da pressapoco qualche centinaio di maldiviani che formano una vera e propria comunità.
La vita su un'isola è completamente diversa da quella che siamo abituati noi sulla "terraferma".
Qui sull'isola di K. Gaafaru tutti si conoscono; le vie sono strette e sterrate, le case costruite inizialmente con mattoni in corallo, dopodichè bloccate perchè illegali, sono adesso costruite dai soliti mattoni.
K.Gaafaru Island proprio come ogni isola abitata presenta una casa per l'energia (power house) che fornisce elettricità alle luci all'intero territorio isolano.
Il porto di attracco, le vie principali ed il piccolo market sono il vero luogo in cui è possibile vedere la maggior parte della gente, anche se le donne (tutte velate in quanto le Maldive sono abitate da una popolazione islamica) ed i bambini preferiscono starsene nei cortili delle loro case al fresco sotto alti alberi di cocco e di mango.
Una alta torre radiotrasmittente per la rete telefonica e radio-televisiva si innalza sull'isola (due sono le principali linee telefoniche alle Maldive tra cui la principale è Dhiraguu).
A pochi passi invece la cosa che mi ha colpito di più è stata l'unica scuola di un bel colore azzurro pastello composta da poche classi dove i bambini studiavano e seguivano la lezione ed incuriositi da noi turisti si affacciavano alle vetrate che davano al cortine sorridendo.
Fà davvero uno strano effetto invece il fatto che non ci sia una caserma nè un corpo di polizia (beh su un'isola dove può mai scappare un ladro d'altronde?) ed il fatto che costruendo nuove case le fondamenta sono a contatto con l'acqua e la sabbia del mare.
Due moschee ed un cimitero comunale completano questa alquanto singolare e caratteristica escursione sull'isola di K. Gaafaru, esempio di come le comunità isolane, in questo caso delle Maldive vivano la loro vita che può sembrare tanto distante e diversa dalla popolazione del continente.
Ma eccoci pronti a ripartire verso l'isola di Picnic Island: un'isoletta disabitata (o per lo meno abitata da solo due persone) dove è possibile fare braciate e grigliate immersi nel verde delle palme di cocco e circontati dalla chiara sabbia corallina e da una natura incontaminata.
Con queste due escursioni abbiamo scoperto che davvero le Maldive lasciano sempre qualcosa di nuovo da scoprire e che forse la vera bellezza non sono solamente i più conosciuti resort ma le persone e la gente che vive in questo paradiso terrestre.
En - When someone thinks about Maldives immediately evokes to your mind the luxurious resort with all inclusive comforts: restaurant, Villa on the beach, swimming pool on the sea, cocktails brought to the table while taking the sun and all the precautions that make it an unforgettable holiday.
But the Maldives go beyond the resort so much so that there are many uninhabited islands and even more those in which the "locals" live.
Thanks to the excursion took during our stay at Summer Island Maldives, we have appreciated the ethnic and wild part of this fantastic place.
Started in the morning at 9 a.m. from the resort after an hour by speedboat we arrived to K. Gaafaru Island: an island inhabited by few hundreds Maldivians who form a real community.
Life on an island is completely different from what we are used to the "mainland".
Here on K. Gaafaru island everyone knows eachother; the streets are narrow and unpaved, once houses built with bricks made of coral, then blocked because illegal, are now built by the usual bricks.
K.Gaafaru Island just like every inhabited island has a house for energy (power house) which supplies electricity to the lights of the entire island.
The docking harbour, the main streets and the small market are the real place where you can see most of the people, although women (veiled as the Maldives are inhabited by a Muslim population) and children prefer to sit in the courtyards of their houses chilling under tall coconut trees and mango ones.
A high radio transmitter tower for the telephone and radio-television network stands on the island (there are two main telephone lines in the Maldives including the main one is Dhiraguu).
A few steps instead the thing that struck me the most was the only school in a nice blue pastel color composed of a few classes where the children studied and followed the lesson and they were curioused by our tourists and they smiling were looking out from the windows that gave to the curtains.
It really makes a strange effect on the other hand the fact that there is not a police departement, nor a police force (well, where does a thief could never escape on an island? lol ) And the fact that building new houses foundations are in contact with the sea 'water and the sand of the sea.
Two mosques and a municipal cemetery complete this somewhat unique and distinctive excursion on the island of K. Gaafaru, example of how island communities, in this case the Maldives one live their life that can seem so distant and different from the population of the continent.
But here we are ready to go to Picnic Island: uninhabited island (or at least inhabited by only two people) where you can cook and make some grills in the green of coconut palms and coral sand surrounding by clear and unspoiled nature.
With these two excurs we found out that Maldives always leave something new to discover, and that perhaps the real beauty is not only the best known resort but the people and the population who live in this earthly paradise.
